Sharon Meyer : Coins & Kyanite

Sherrie Gallerie

November 13-December 22, 2015

Special Holiday Collection

"The return of cooler days brings the cool blues into my new collection using Kyanite, Lapis, and deeper hues of blue pearls, while the coins bring allure and warm rays of light." -Sharon Meyer

Tim Harding : Layers

Sherrie Gallerie

"After working in painting and photography in college, I became intrigued with the intimacy of fiber/textiles; their textural, tactile richness, the pliable plane, the inherent grid of the weave, as well as the complex cultural roles of this medium. There is a culturally ingrained preciousness to fabric.  We must not tear, scorch or soil our 'good' clothes.  And yet these textiles have a tempting vulnerability.  My work is based on the act of violating this taboo.I use a unique, self-developed physical technique (a complex, free-reverse appliqué) which makes use of the intrinsic properties of my materials while creating an interesting interplay of surface and structure. The lack of barriers between art and life in primitive and other non-Western culturesinspires in my own work the commitment to pursue aesthetic investigation in a medium (fiber) traditionally outside of our own culture's fine art hierarchy. Calvin Ma : Animal Instincts

Sherrie Gallerie

Calvin Ma received his BA in industrial arts from San Francisco State University in 2007, and his MFA in sculpture from the Academy of Art University in 2012. He has been featured in several publications, including “500 Figures in Clay.” His work is in many private collections, and has been shown in gallery and museum exhibitions across the United States. The artist currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA.

"I utilize the action figure form in my sculptural work to explore personal issues and struggles with social anxiety. As an adult, I face difficulties in the social environment. Meeting new people, being in the company of strangers, crowds, peers and intermittently among friends and family brings about a heightened nervousness that takes over and impedes my ability to function socially. Even as a child I was reserved and apprehensive, so I turned to toys to keep me entertained. I believe the tactile activity of playing with them coupled with my active imagination helped establish this passion for the action figure early on. There was something about picking up your favorite hero or villain and creating stories and adventures that captivated me. It felt only natural to tap into this childlike sense of exploration and storytelling through my artwork."  -Calvin Ma

Sharon Meyer : Seriously Fun

Sherrie Gallerie

Sharon has been designing jewelry for exclusive specialty stores, galleries and jewelers for over thirty years. Her flair for design and eye for color and texture result in timeless jewelry that anticipates, rather than follows fashion trends. Synergy best describes Sharon’s art. Her personality and passion are reflected in every design, a result of her personal involvement in all aspects of the art, from purchasing through execution. Sharon’s immediately recognizable designs have been referred by collectors and peers alike as “wearable art”.

Sharon travels extensively showing her work nationally. She is a long time member of Fashion Group International and an annual exhibitor at
the international SOFA (Sculptural Objects and Functional Art) show. Loving the work she does, Sharon continues to create stunning “wearable art”’ coveted by collectors across the country.
